First violinist Alla Aranovskaya and violist Boris Vayner of the world-renowned, Grammy-nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet have joined forces with rising star cellist Thomas Mesa and pianist Ilya Yakushev, winner of the 2005 World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, whose "vigor and virtuosity" in an "astounding triple debut" with the SF Symphony earned him a place him on the SF Chronicle's list of "Ten Best Classical Music Events of the Year." The St. Petersburg Piano Quartet made its debut this spring with two sold-out concerts on New York City's Barge Music series, and makes its Bay Area debut to open the 2014-2015 Music at Kohl season with works by Mozart and Schumann as well as Brahms' fiery Piano Quartet in G minor.
