Bedrich Smetana's The Moldau traces the path of a river in Smetana's homeland from mountain springs through to Prague, along the way encountering hunters, a village wedding, and more.
Ludwig van Beethoven's "Pastoral" Symphony is a rare programmatic work by this titan of music whose 250th birthday we are celebrating this year. It reflects Beethoven's deep love of nature, and takes us on a musical journey that, in his own words, were a "Recollection of Country Life".
In between, we will hear the stunning Renascence (Concertino for Flute and Orchestra) by American composer Lita Grier, and featuring soloist Victoria Hauk.
