This twelve-week technical oil painting course will concentrate on furthering your technical skills to create three-dimensional illusions while expressing your unique conceptual vision. Glazing, lighting, edging techniques, and others, will be demonstrated and practiced in class. You will learn how to see color as value, transforming your paintings from intermediate to advanced level work. Artists including Michael Borremans, and Xenia Hausner will be discussed. Class lectures, demonstrations, critical group discussions, and three painting projects will demystify the process of painting and empower you to create new works nothing short of magical.
____Ingrid V. Wells has been painting for close to a decade, having shown internationally, she earned her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute.. Her work fancies the fantastic and humorous in theme and the charming, the kitschy, and the celebrity in subject. Wells’s paintings investigate the world of gendered consumerism and the ethics of fascination. Her work has been featured in The Huffington Post, Daily Mail, BUST Magazine, and Teen Vogue, among others. Wells currently lives and works in San Francisco.ingridvwells.com

For courses that meet for ten sessions or more, a 100% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given if written notice is received at least five business days before the first class. After five business days before the first class, an 80% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received prior to the third class. No refund is given after the class has met three times. Please allow two to three weeks to receive your refund.
For courses that meet for six sessions or fewer, a 100% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received at least five business days before the first class. What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. Visit the SFAI website here, click on your course title, and then click on the blue "Materials List" link underneath the course dates. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?This painting class meets at SFAI's new Fort Mason Campus located at: Herbst Pavilion, 10 Marina Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94123. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture is accessible by car, lyft/uber, or the #43 Muni bus line. Please note there is an hourly pay-to-park system (these spaces are closest to the entrance of the school), but immediately outside of this area is free parking along Marina Green. These hundreds of free spaces are where we recommend parking if you are looking to avoid the $2-3 hourly rate inside Fort Mason Center.
