This course approaches design as a conceptual process and as a set of tools for the materialization of an idea. Through practical in-class exercises and projects, we will learn to use and integrate the digital programs of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop into a successful workflow. Assignments will consist of traditional and experimental approaches to question and broaden our perspective as creative producers and consumers.
Bring to first class: examples of your graphic design or other visual work (if applicable), Sketchbook (any form that you prefer), Assortment of graphite pencils, black pen (variety of widths), eraser, ruler, scissors, glue stick. 5 white card boards, 8 x 8 in., 2 sheets of black canson paper 8x10 in.

Born and raised behind the iron curtain and growing up in Western Germany, Elisabeth Ajtay is a conceptual artist primarily working in photography. Her work reflects and questions western culture on a psychological level with themes related to advertising, the psychological impacts of technology and the notion of home. Her multi-faceted practice is a reflection on her translation from growing up in, and, constantly moving between two different systems.
Elisabeth's work is in numerous private collections. She has exhibited throughout Europe and in the US, including inSPIRACJE and Art Moves Festival in Poland, Goethe Institutes in Morocco, Prague, New York and France. Museum shows include the MKK -Museum for Art and Cultural History Dortmund, Germany and Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, Texas. In San Francisco, she exhibited with Alter Space, Ramon’s Tailor, RAYKO and Savernack Street. Elisabeth received a diploma in communications design from the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund in Dortmund, Germany and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, CA.elisabethajtay.com

For courses that meet for six sessions or fewer, a 100% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received at least five business days before the first class. After five business days before the first class, an 80% refund minus a $20 processing fee is given when written notice is received prior to the second class. What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?All classes meet at 800 Chestnut Street (unless otherwise noted), between Jones and Leavenworth. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.
SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.I have a question that isn't on this list.
