Spreading Rolligion - Guinness World Record - Longest Chain of Roller Skaters

SEE EVENT DETAILS
What’s old is new again!!! That has been the story told many times when you look at the popularity of roller skating over the decades. From Charlie Chaplin’s movie “The Rink” in 1916 to Bow Wow’s movie “Roll Bounce” in 2005, to ads and commercials of today, roller skating has seen many ups and downs.
Well, here in 2018, roller skating is on the upswing. The Church of 8 Wheels Roller Disco,  a 130 year old Catholic church turned roller disco,  is now one of San Francisco’s hottest night spots.  Our roots lie in Golden Gate Park, but now the Holy Rollers are now working with NOW Hunters Point to transform an industrial landscape into a whole new outdoor roller skating experience for San Francisco!!!
On Sunday, July 29, 2018, the members of the Church of 8 Wheels and the skaters from the Black Rock Roller Disco (Burning Man Theme Camp) are going to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chain of roller skaters. We will do this at one of the City's newest parks, the new Hunter's Point Shoreline Park.  This area has been transformed from industrial use into a fantastic place for roller skating and we are going to present this world record skate to get you and the family there to check it out!!!
We have made this world record attempt before in San Francisco, but the current record is now 371 skaters set by the Shivganga Roller Skating Club of Belgaum, India on May 31, 2017. We want to get 400 skaters to take back the title!!!!!
Participants must pre-register for the event.  The cost of registration is $10.00 per person. Skate rentals are available and is $10.00. Registration will open at 10AM at Bayview Shoreline Park, 160 Jennings St. S.F.Ca. Here you can pick up your bib numbers. The first record attempt will begin at 1PM.
This world record event is being presented by the Church of 8 Wheels Roller Disco, DMJ Skate Sports Marketing in partnership with NOW Hunters Point, a project supported by PG&E. It is being held in conjunction with the Circus Bella Circus Festival being presented by the Bayview Opera House. There will be jugglers, clowns, and of course the giant fun slide to go with the roller skating worlds record!!!
HERE ARE THE RULES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!
There are quite a few guidelines that must be followed in order for our Guinness World Record attempts to be validated.  Please read all the info below and be prepared when the time comes to skate.
1. Every participant must be registered for the world record event. Each participant will receive a bib number that must be placed in plain sight on their chest area. The event will be videotaped from many angles and by many media people.  The registrations, bib numbers, videotapes and media coverage are all crucial elements in the verification process.
 2.   The World’s Longest Chain of Roller Skaters is specifically for four wheel "quad" roller skates.  Each skaters will hold on to the other skaters hips as the group moves together a distance of at least 400 meters without breaking the chain. HOLDING ONTO CLOTHING, BACKPACKS OR ANYTHING OTHER THAT THE PERSON'S HIPS IN FRONT OF YOU VOIDS THE RECORD ATTEMPT.  IF THE CHAIN BREAKS AT ANY POINT THE ATTEMPT IS VOID.
Be aware of the kind of clothing that you wear. We want everyone to be bright and colorful, but we don't want you or others tripping or being interfered with by hats, long coats, scarfs, feather boas or other articles that would cause the record to be voided. You must be a competent skater to participate.  No pets are allowed.  No dogs on leashes.  Participants must be at least 12 years old to participate.
All funds from the event will go to the Black Rock Roller Disco, a Burning Man theme camp that builds a roller skating rink in the desert and spreads rolligion throughout the land!!!
