The Monterey Museum of Art celebrates their 55th anniversary in 2014, celebrating with a rich array of engaging collaborative and interdisciplinary programs. They will kick off the festivities with a special concert featuring stunning piano arrangements for four hands by Rachmaninoff and Brahms, performed by internationally renowned pianists Melinda Coffey Armstead, music director of Church in the Forest in Pebble Beach, and special guest Mark Neiwirth, a Distinguished Steinway Artist on the faculty of Idaho State University. Soprano Katherine Edison will also be on hand to perform songs by Dvorak, Tosti, and Cavallo, while bass-baritone Robert Armstead rounds out the program with a medley of musical theatre selections from Richard Rodgers and Leonard Bernstein that pay tribute to Valentine's Day. David Gordon, a long-time lecturer and presenter at the Carmel Bach Festival and esteemed international opera singer, will weave the music into the stories of some of the famous figures in the Yousuf Karsh and Ansel Adams photography exhibitions now on display at MMA La Mirada.
