South Asian Literature and Arts Festival (SALA2019)

SEE EVENT DETAILS
SOUTH ASIAN LITERATURE & ART FESTIVAL - October 6 to 13, 2019.
Special event on Oct 18th at 8 pm at Montalvo Art Center, 15400 Montalvo Road, Saratoga CA | Noon to 5 pm

For the first time ever, Montalvo Arts Center and Art Forum SF in collaboration with UC Berkeley Institute of South Asian Studies bring to you one of the largest South Asian Literature & Art Festival (SALA) in the US.

South Asian Literature and Art Festival is celebrating contemporary reflections of literature and arts from South Asia. The event will feature books and readings, hands-on art activities, writing programs, art exhibitors, folk artists, Bollywood pop-up dancers, bhangra rhythms, and dance interludes -- all interspersed with delicious food stations representing the flavors of the entire subcontinent.

Come and spend the day at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California, and witness the power of dialogue and discussion in this historic artist's refuge. Enter a creative wonderland and listen to the stories that may find their roots on the banks of the 4000-year-old Indus River but are narrated in the twenty-first century. Witness art that is taking an old soul and emerging with defiance, contemplation, and dignity in modern times.

Montalvo will open its grounds to a day of story-telling, conversations, book-reading, and children's hands-on craft activities. There will be henna, a live rangoli demonstration and impromptu performances. An art and literature marketplace will feature Bay Area Artists and Book's Inc book sellers. There will be something for everyone and people of all ages.

This exhibit will co-exist along with keynotes, panels, and on-stage presentations that explore Art, Literature, Poetry and Cinema delivered by prominent local, national and international authors, artists and speakers.

The featured artists and presenters from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the USA include:
o Rekha Rodwittiya, a contemporary and eminent artist whose name is synonymous with a very restrained, yet resounding gaze at feminism
