March 15, 7:26 am to March 16, 7:26 am

Visual and Performing artist Charles Trapolin presents Soul Atlas, a live-streamed artwork in which Trapolin will spend 24 hours in an 8-foot cube visually documenting states of consciousness.

What is the difference between the soul and the body? How do we break out of the confines of our own experience? Can we make the threshold between ordinary and non-ordinary reality more porous and more transparent?

These are the questions at the heart of Soul Atlas, a 24-hour live-streamed performance in which artist Charles H. Trapolin inhabits an 8-foot cube, visually documenting his shifting states of consciousness within. Through drawing, painting, storytelling, and embodied awareness, Trapolin creates a living map of perception, exploring the fullness of selfhood and the unseen dimensions of reality.

The cube serves as a powerful symbol - a metaphor for the conditioned self. Its boundaries represent the mental and perceptual limitations we are taught to accept, the edges of our own internal landscape. Within this space, Trapolin seeks to transcend these confines, mapping not just thought, but intuition, sensation, and non-ordinary states of awareness. Future installations of the work will include Augmented and Virtual Reality views of the interior of the cube.

Originally from New Orleans, Charles Trapolin's visual artwork has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collection of the Waitakaruru Sculpture Garden and Arboretum in New Zealand and the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. In addition, his work has been shown at the Oakland Museum, McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas, Yerba Buena Center of the Arts in San Francisco and Burning Man in 2000and 2001. In 2023, he opened Bounty a studio/gallery in which he could develop new work including Soul
Atlas.
