The Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus in collaboration with Holocaust Music Lost & Found, and Citizen Film present our season highlight - Songs of Truth: Holocaust Awareness Concert & Conversation.
Join us in paying tribute to the exceptional talent and resilience of Jewish composers who continued to create music even while imprisoned during the Holocaust. The project showcases the works of highly accomplished, yet little known composers such as J. Kropinski, Ilse Weber, and Elsa Barraine, all who perished in Nazi concentration camps.
Featured works to include:
Tree of Life Variations, Matthew Arnerich & Diane Frank; Elad Kabilio cello soloist (world premiere)
Selections from the Holocaust Cantata, Donald McCullough; Elad Kabilio cello soloist
Overture fur kleines orchestre, Hans Krasa
Piano Concerto Op. 25, (1st movement), Viktor Ullman; soloist, tbd
The Songs of Truth project provides a unique window into learning about the Holocaust through music, while also inspiring audiences to reflect on, recognize, and resist the rise of antisemitism today. We offer Songs of Truth to our diverse audience as a way to stand together as allies with the Jewish community against hatred and disinformation today.
