Something from Nothing: Art and Handcrafted Objects from America’s Concentration Camps

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066 and the imprisonment of Japanese-Americans, this exhibition features art and handcrafted objects created by incarcerated Japanese-Americans during WWII. This unique collection tells the story of disrupted lives and the resourcefulness of a marginalized community who used available materials to preserve home and community traditions amidst scarcity.

Designed by USF students, this premiere exhibition is the culmination of nine years of collaboration between USF and the National Japanese American Historical Society. Through the support of the California Humanities, USF was instrumental in making the NJAHS collection available through a digital archive.
