"Somebody" - A Figurative Group Exhibition

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Somebody, a figurative group exhibition curated by Dasha Matsuura. Each of the eleven artists featured explores abstraction and stylization of the human form, depicting the physical and emotional within their subjects.

Capturing the essence of ourselves and our peers has been at the root of art practices throughout history. Moving away from realism and strict documentation, the artists highlighted in Somebody illustrate abstract ideas of emotional states, the imaginary and sublime paired with abstracted visual vocabularies. Grappling with identity, the inherent value of the subject and their presence within the painted space, each work moves beyond the physical body to unpack the human experience.

Utilizing their work to paint the reality they see or would like to see, the artists affirm and underscore the importance of representation or reflection of one's self in art. Painting is used as a means to record the influential and everyday, to allow reverence that you are someone worth documenting. That you are Somebody.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, there will be no opening reception for the exhibition, and the gallery will be by appointment only. An Instagram live walkthrough of the show is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th at 4pm Pacific on the Hashimoto Contemporary Instagram.  For more information, additional images, or exclusive content, please email [email protected].
