Som Dela ("her sound") performs a concert of music by women composers

"Som Dela" ("her sound" in Portuguese) features music by women composers, including ensemble members and Brazilian composers.
"Som Dela" ("Her Sound" in Portuguese) performs music composed primarily by women composers from Brazil as well as locally, including members of the ensemble. The group made its debut in Berkeley on October 11, 2025, performing compositions by Irene Sazer, Rebecca Hass, Léa Freire, Luciana Rabello, Luiza Mitre, Magda Santos and Chiquinha Gonzaga. The ensemble members are all outstanding performers from the Bay Area in jazz, latin music, classical, new music and Brazilian styles.

Jane Lenoir, flutist, is founder of Berkeley Choro Ensemble (2010-) and co-founder with Brian Rice of Berkeley Festival of Choro (2013-). Trained classically at Interlochen Arts Academy and Oberlin, she has a diverse career covering many styles, including classical, jazz, latin, Brazilian, baroque, and more. She recorded with Alessandro Penezzi in 2017, "Jane Lenoir Plays Penezzi", and Berkeley Choro Ensemble in 2018 "The View from Here".www.janelenoir.com

Irene Sazer, violinist and composer: Known internationally as a founding member of Turtle Island String Quartet, Sazer is an acclaimed soloist, recording artist, composer and educator. An in-demand genre-hopping violinist , she founded Real Vocal String Quartet in 2005. In 2019 Sazer was awarded a Gerbode Special Award in the Arts for cultural collaborative work and continues to create with artists around the world.. https://www.irenesazer.com/

Rebecca Hass has been a pianist, composer, collaborative pianist, educator, and creative coach in the Bay Area since 2019. She performs solo as well as with CWICO, Lillian Yee, and her newly-co-founded Women Composers Collective. Her compositions on this program are featured on her albums "Bright Little Worlds" and "Florescer." rebeccahass.com



Michaelle Goerlitz, percussionist, has been playing drums and percussion since she was eight years old. After attending college in the Midwest, she moved to San Francisco in 1980 to continue her studies. Known for her versatility on percussion and drums, Michaelle was a founding member of Blazing Redheads and Wild Mango, two long-term projects that showcased her percussive skills in jazz, AfroCuban, Brazilian and Middle Eastern styles. https://www.michaellegoerlitz.com
