SoL DeVeloPMeNT -- a hip-hop/jazz/soul ensemble based out of Oakland, California -- is the soundtrack to the movement for justice, freedom, and hope. As both educators and artists, Sol Development uses the power of music to help convey positive messages about improving self and improving society. Led by MC Karega Bailey, an award-winning poet, and activist, the collective has been lauded by The Source Magazine, Okayplayer, Revolt TV, AllHipHop, and many others. The collective was invited to perform alongside artists including J. Cole, Bilal, and India Arie at the 2016 #MLKNow celebration, which received over half-a-million views from across the country. They have also been featured artists at The Blue Note NYC, Justice or Else, and Broccoli Music Festival in Washington, D.C.
The collective has just partnered with Oakland-based Zoo Labs Music Residency Program, a 2-week immersive experience that combines strategy, creativity, and the creation of music in their state-of-the-art recording studios to record their first album.
Coming off of their #DisruptHopelessness Summer Tour with stops in New York, Washington, D.C, Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles, the collective continues to share and spread its message of hope in cities throughout the U.S. Headlining their first show in San Francisco here at Brick & Mortar you do not want to miss this opportunity to experience SOL Development.
“Their brand of community healing is necessary in a time where our performers in front of the camera neglect to speak on what’s going on behind it.”– Okayplayer
