GRADUATE LECTURE SERIESSofía Córdova: The Thread of Operations is Broken
Sofía Córdova will draw a thread through the science-fictional universe she’s created in video, performance, music, sculpture, and installation. Interested in how speculative models interact with and shape contemporary histories and the lives’ of their protagonists, Córdova will place the work within the context of her research and investigations into sci-fi, dance and music culture(s), the Internet, mystical things, mutation and extinction, migration, climate change and how they relate to late capitalism and its technologies.
Sofía Córdova (b. Puerto Rico) has exhibited her work and performed at SFMOMA, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Vincent Price Museum and international venues, most recently MEWO Kunsthalle in Germany. Her work is part of Pier 24’s and the Whitney Museum’s permanent collections and has been the subject of a First Look feature in Art in America. Córdova was awarded a 2018 residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts. Córdova received her BFA from St. John’s University in conjunction with the International Center for Photography; and her MFA from the California College of the Arts.
