Nights II and III
If last Friday's reunion-fest at San Jose Skate wasn't enough nostalgia for you, there are two more happening this week-and then that's it, San Jose Skate is closed. These shows will feature a ton of great, now-defunct local bands from the mid 2000s (Back when SJ Skate was the go-to all-ages venue). There are some great still-active bands sprinkled in the mix, too, like Stickup Kid, 5606, Pounders and Friday's headliner, Arsonists Get All The Girls. Some reunion highlights for both nights include Saturday's headliner Undergone, North of the Woods, This Son of Yours and The Holy Ghost Circuit. (Aaron Carnes)
Night I (passed)
After the Cactus Club closed in 2002, the San Jose music scene was at an all time low. Slowly but surely new faces came along and rebuilt it. One of them was Pinup Productions, which booked all over town-and in atypical venues like Nickel City. One of the most beloved venues they booked at was San Jose Skate, where, from 2005 till late 2008, they did a good three to five all-ages shows a week. Now as San Jose Skate is closing its doors for good, Pinup Productions is throwing three farewell shows. The first, this Friday, features a handful of one-time only reunions from indie, punk and alt-rock bands from back in the day, like My Former Self, Plans for Revenge, Day Maker, Far From You, Sky Highway and the still active Rin Tin Tiger (Aaron Carnes)
