An evening presentation and open discussion focusing on the latest research on the potential benefits, as well as the risks, of medical marijuana and psychedelic psychotherapy. Hosted by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) a local 501(c)3 non-profit research organization and featuring guest speaker, Martin Lee, award-winning author of Acid Dreams: The Complete Social History of LSD, and Smoke Signals: A Social History of Marijuana. Lee is director of Project CBD, an information service focusing on cannabis science and therapeutics, co-founder of the media watch group Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), and an internationally recognized public speaker. Lee, will explore the relationship between cannabis therapeutics and psychedelic experiences, and will share current research on the healing potential of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of the marijuana plant.
The evening continues with the premiere screening of the inspiring mini-documentary Transforming Medicine, and a short panel discussion and Q&A with Martin Lee and MAPS staff sharing international perspectives on the latest marijuana research, results from seven clinical studies of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, and stories from the Zendo Project psychedelic harm reduction services. A book signing and reception follows the talk.
With cannabis now legalized in two states and medically sanctioned in 20, it is time for us to take a closer look at the research, results, and potential therapeutic uses of marijuana and psychedelics. Over the past decade, psychedelic and medical marijuana research has been experiencing an international renaissance as the number of FDA-approved clinical trials is increasing. Substances such as LSD, MDMA, CBD, ayahuasca, and ibogaine are being explored for their potential to calm end-of life anxiety, reduce the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression, and help end addictions to alcohol and opiates.
