SMALLPOOLS
Smallpools are about to take your whole summer over. Arriving on the scene like the perfect middle point between the sunny electronics of Foster The People and the solar-powered vocals of Fun, their debut single "Dreaming" offers synths straight out of Passion Pit's playbook and hooks that would make Dr. Luke jealous. "Dreaming" is alt radio gold with extreme crossover potential, the kind of song that only comes along a few times a year, and rarely on a debut single.

They're from LA because of course they are - songwriting like this doesn't occur naturally anywhere else - and are produced by none other than our dudes Captain Cuts, who we've been saying are only one hit away from global pop domination for about 18 months now. Well, all we can say is it looks like they found their hit.

SAVOIR ADORE
On “Dreamers,” the dance-laden lullaby and lead single from Savoir Adore’s new album Our Nature, Paul Hammer and Deidre Muro invite listeners into a magical dream world. Such worlds are nothing new to the fantasy pop duo, who inadvertently became a fixture of Brooklyn’s indie scene as the result of a dare. In 2007, as disheartened solo artists, they whimsically retreated out of the city to a rural studio with two rules: “48 hours. No acoustic guitars.” They returned with The Adventures of Mr. Pumpernickel and The Girl with Animals in Her Throat (Cantora), a concept-driven EP set in a fairy tale land that narrates the tragedy of Gloria and her unrequited love. On 2009’s full length In The Wooded Forest (Cantora), they expounded on the EP’s mythical landscape. But where Savoir Adore’s previous releases have surveyed these worlds at a distance, Our Nature zooms in, putting our inner landscapes and relationships at the core of every track. In that vein, the recordings themselves are intentionally more crisp, aurally expansive and intriguing.

CLOUD CONTROL
For a band that started on a whim, entering the local University band comp was a turn of fate for Blue Mountains Rock & Rollers Cloud Control. Forming just 3 weeks prior, they took out the title and turned their songs and winnings into a self titled EP which saw them pick up a bunch of local accolades, including Sydney's Fbi Radio SMAC award for Best Newcomer and the opportunity to tour with Vampire Weekend, Supergrass, Josh Pyke and Yves Klein Blue.

"The psyched-out artwork and the "free 1960s fonts" logo on Cloud Control's debut album, 2011's Bliss Release (also: the title), pretty much told you what was going on inside the box before you heard a note: their woozy Tame Impala-meets-Fleet Foxes vibe came as no surprise. What is refreshing is that the first single from the follow-up (Dream Cave, due this fall) sees the band shut its shared third-eye to focus somewhere a little more present: namely, the romantic, professional, and personal fuck-ups of singer Alister Wright. "Dojo Rising" is a fine downer hymn, a small, grey, circling cloud of tremulous guitar and steady, splattering cymbals. ... Dream Cave is released in the U.S. on September 17 via Votiv." --Pitchfork
