Photography has long been an accessible medium – and with the ubiquity of smart phones today, we can all be photographers now. From selfies to serious reportage, it would be difficult to find someone who has not used their mobile device to take a photo.
On the 4th birthday of SF-based Instagram, we'd like to acknowledge this shift in visual consciousness by devoting a slideshow to a wide-ranging survey of the most interesting photography being produced for their platform today. We’ll be looking for the most dynamic, creative, well-considered uses of the medium – but also for things raw and unexpected. Also that day will be Instagram's Worldwide InstaMeet 10, encouraging people around the world to connect in person around their love of capturing and sharing the world's moments.
To curate this show, we thought it fitting to bring in Patrick Witty, the Director of Photography for WIRED. Prior to this, Witty was the International Picture Editor of TIME and the International Picture Editor at The New York Times.
The slideshow will feature emerging and established photographers and artists using the medium in imaginative and thought-provoking ways.
