BIO

“The definition of a master is elusive, but somehow you know one when you hear one…a probing, complete and utterly honest artist, a pianist who knows what he is doing: a master.”
—The New York Times

Andras Schiff explores the complete works of keyboard composers like no other pianist alive.

Schiff is celebrated for his concentrated and encyclopedic explorations of major keyboard works and he is particularly acclaimed as a Bach scholar who brings a sharp intellect and technical brilliance to his performances.

Sir András Schiff is world-renowned and critically acclaimed as a pianist, conductor, pedagogue and lecturer. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1953, he started piano lessons at age five with Elisabeth Vadász. He continued his musical studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy with Professor Pál Kadosa, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados, and in London with George Malcolm.
