Overview
Trying to create simple communication between computers, apis and hardware doesnt have to be programming nightmare. Thats where Node-RED comes in.  Node-RED is a node-based programming tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways. It provides a browser-based editor that makes it easy to learn and even easier to be creative with.  This becomes even more powerful when combined with your own NodeJS code.  In this workshop students well learn how to simplify communication with hardware devices using a ESP32 Wireless Microcontroller,  manage data streams with MQTT and explore new ways to creatively connect sensors and LEDs to create interactive installations.

Mark Hellar is a leading technology consultant for cultural institutions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond and owner of Hellar Studios LLC. Mark has worked on new media conservation initiatives at SFMoMA, MoMA and the Solomon Guggenheim Museum on the conservation and care of their software-based artworks.
