Simone Dinnerstein Leads Bach

SEE EVENT DETAILS
New Century Chamber Orchestra continues its 2019-2020 season with the return of acclaimed American pianist Simone Dinnerstein. Making her first appearance as artist-in-residence, Dinnerstein will lead the Orchestra from the piano with a program of Keyboard Concerti by J.S. Bach. Highlighted works include the composer's popular Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, BWV 1050, featuring New Century principal second violinist Candace Guirao and flutist Christina Jennings, Keyboard Concerti in E Major, BWV 1053, F minor, BWV 1056 and D minor, BWV 1052 as well as the Bach-Busoni chorale prelude for piano Ich ruf zu dir.

Dinnerstein made her debut with New Century in May 2018 with an acclaimed West Coast Premiere of Philip Glass' Piano Concerto No. 3. San Francisco Classical Voice stated that she "made her liquid tone and deliberate rhythmic pulse the swimming current of the piece" while commenting on her "crisp and shapely" phrasing in the accompanying Bach Keyboard Concerto No. 7 in G minor, BWV 1058. One of today's leading interpreters of Bach, Dinnerstein has been called "a unique voice in the forest of Bach interpretation" (The New York Times) with her 2007 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations reaching No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Classical Chart in its first week of sales and receiving the prestigious Diapason D'Or in France. Dinnerstein has gone on to release eight albums ranging from Beethoven to Ravel.

Further residency appearances with New Century this season include a special two-day event in San Francisco's recently renovated Presidio Theatre, January 23-25, 2020, entitled "Beethoven in the Presidio." As part of the composer's 250th birthday celebrations, Music Director Daniel Hope will join Simone Dinnerstein and GRAMMY Award-winning cellist Lynn Harrell for two unique programs.

$10 to $67.50.
