"Signs of Life" Artist Reception for Roni Gerson July 13 At The Compound Gallery

Please join The Compound Gallery July 13 from 6-9 p.m. to launch a new show by South Bay artist Roni Gerson, who explores her sense of place in the world by intuitively and playfully combining driving directions and life directions in her Signs of Life solo show.
In Signs Of Life, The Compound Gallery will showcase a selection of Gerson's pieces that focus on her subjective life experience and sense of place. Born in Jerusalem, Gerson relocated to the Bay Area in 2015: "As an alien in California, I experience it with fresh eyes; I am awake to the wide blue sky, the clarity of light, and the abundant vegetation everywhere. When I go back to my studio, I try to reproduce these feelings and sights on the canvas." Figurative hints, street signs, and other notions of urban human life materialize in these seemingly abstract paintings. Driving directions and life directions are blended and expressed in colors, shapes, and imagery.
The Compound Gallery and Interdisciplinary Studios was established in 2008 to create a hub for creativity and community engagement. The Gallery holds rotating exhibits featuring a diverse range of contemporary art, and also hosts a community Print Shop where studio members can have 24/7 access to a full range of letterpress, risograph, 3-D printing, and screenprinting equipment.
