"LA native Henry Laufer may be a young fella, but the 19-year-old producer, better known as Shlohmo, has rocketed on to our radar screen in recent months with his lo-fi, psychedelic mix of abstract hip-hop, dubstep-flavored wonk, bouncy synth-funk, breezy trip-hop, and what sounds like lost gems from the mid-'90s Mo' Wax catalog. Now splitting time between San Francisco and LA, in January Shlohmo will be releasing the Shlohmoshun Deluxe mini-album, so we decided to enlist him for the XLR8R podcast series now, before dude seriously blows up." --XLR8R
Jim-E-Stack:
From growing up in San Francisco, playing drums in school bands, to honing his craft as a teenager in New Orleans, and later moving to New York City, Jim-E Stack channels his world into a heartfelt sound, deeply rooted in house music. To listen to his music is to feel from his skin.
Purple:
For the last six years, Luis Dourado has been writing, producing, and singing under the alias Purple, an ominous apparition that allows the Portuguese musician to blend the aforementioned talents into one artistic breath. Growing up in the Porto, Purple was first introduced to the scene through Terrain Ahead, an electronic collective/label he founded with fellow Portugal artists IVVVO and Trikk. He self released his debut record "Violence" in 2011 and it wasn't long until other luminaries began to show interest, including Los Angeles producer Shlohmo. After a few initial conversations, Purple became an official member of Shlohmo's tightly knit Los Angeles crew/label WeDidIt, and in November of 2013 Purple released his first record with the label entitled "Salvation". Now working and living in London, Purple looks prepared to further push his left field antics into center stage.
