SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Cabrillo Crocker Theater (see times)
Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen celebrates the life and music of the artist named an 'American Choral Master' by the National Endowment for the Arts, whom musicologist Nick Strimple describes as "the only American composer in history who can be called a mystic". Join us on Saturday, September 6th as we host this very special film to kick off the Cabrillo Choirs' 2014-2015 season! In February 2015, Lauridsen will join the Cabrillo Choirs for a week as part of Cabrillo's Visiting Artist program.

The celebration starts with a Lawn Party in the VAPA quad at 4:30--enjoy a fun afternoon for the whole family with food & drink, penny-carnival games for kids, face-painting, and live music. The free showing of Shining Night begins at 6:00pm in the Crocker Theater.

America's most frequently performed contemporary choral composer, Lauridsen is a National Medal of Arts recipient who spends summers on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest. Exploring the relationship of art, nature, and spirituality, Shining Night reveals the composer through the lens of his love for the natural world together with his passion for music and literature, interwoven with commentaries from composers, conductors, and singers.

We hope you'll join us for this award-winning documentary that celebrates the transformative power of song.
