Shahzeen Attari at The Interval: Motivating Action on Climate Change

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Climate change may be the biggest challenge humanity has faced, yet in polls Americans rank environmental concerns low (if at all) among the country's problems. Environmental researcher Shahzeen Attari will discuss this information disconnect and lead a dialogue about how to change it.
Can stories help build public support and ultimately the political will we need to reverse climate trends? What narratives can convey complex facts and lead people to care about them?
The Interval at Long Now welcomes
Shahzeen Attari (Indiana University / CASBS Stanford)
Facts, Feelings and Stories: How to Motivate Action on Climate Change
Check-in begins 6:30pm; talk will start 7:30pmat The Interval at Long Now
Dr. Shahzeen Attari's past research has looked at what we know and think we know about the energy and water systems we use every day. Her new work, funded by a 02018 Andrew Carnegie fellowship, will explore how to best communicate environmental facts that inspire individual behavior change and support for better climate policy. With a background that combines engineering, environmental science, and cognitive science Attari is uniquely equipped to explore the area of improving environmental decision-making.
This event is co-presented by the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS), where Dr. Attari is currently a fellow.
