Shahram Shabpareh, the King of Persian Pop, last performed in the Bay Area 10 years ago. And for some 40 years, he’s been singing catchy, heartfelt dance-pop songs. His music borders on electronic-pop, but retains some of the traditional sounds of the Middle East as well. For most of his career, he’s lived in the U.S. He fled Iran (along with several other pop stars) in 1979 after the Iranian Revolution, but he’s still maintained his status as an Iranian pop icon while living all these years in the States. Even in recent years, he still cranks out the hits.
