sfSound returns to Old First Concerts with an exciting program of works newly composed/revised within the last year alongside two pieces from 50 years ago. Over the past decade, sfSound has emerged as one of the most exciting and fiercely innovative contemporary music organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are an ensemble of performer-composers and a concert series that presents their own compositions, improvisations, new commissions, electronic music, and standard avant-garde repertoire. Since 2003, they have been presenting a mix of music from the European, American, and contemporary Californian avant-garde, an exploration of the continuum between notated composition and free improvisation, theatrical works, works for small and large ensembles, solo performances, conceptual works, live electronic music, tape music, and a ton of works written and improvised by members of the ensemble. They also present their highly popular annual San Francisco Tape Music Festival, host a 24/7 internet radio station (sfSoundRadio), and frequently collaborate with other musicians and institutions in various projects
