SFJAZZ Family Matinee: Caminos Flamencos

SEE EVENT DETAILS
For this special matinee we feature the Bay Area’s premiere flamenco ensemble Caminos Flamencos, directed by EMMY-Award winning choreographer Yaelisa and musical director/guitarist Jason “El Rubio,” as they celebrate the innovators of the thrilling and centuries-old Spanish art form. With roots dating back to the Byzantine Empire along with the influence of nomadic Roma (or Gypsy) peoples, flamenco music and dance continue to express the heart, soul and passion of its people. Families will be encouraged to clap, sing, and shout “¡olé!” as we follow the path of modern flamenco into the future.

Both fun and educational, Family Matinees provide a window into the exciting world of live jazz. Each one-hour matinee features live performance, audience participation, Q&A and amazing music. Our interactive Family Workshops follow select performances and are FREE to matinee ticket-holders. Enjoyed individually or as a series, these Family Matinees and Workshops will change the way you hear jazz and get families playing together.

Following the performance, join us in the Joe Henderson Lab for an interactive experience with Orff percussion instruments with Bay Area educator and author Doug Goodkin. This Family Workshop is free to matinee ticket-holders; sign-ups take place in the lobby prior to the show and space is limited.

A limited number of free tickets are available to low-income Bay Area school or community groups. If you are interested in bringing your school or community group to a Family Matinee, please fill out our ticket request form: http://bit.ly/1mUiSjc .
