Join us on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. for the grand opening celebration of the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) Galleries new and greatly expanded 4400-square-foot exhibition and convening space in the historic War Memorial Veterans Building! We launch our new space with three dynamic exhibitions featuring thirteen regional artists.
Bring It Home: (Re)Locating Cultural Legacy Through the Body is curated by independent curator Kevin B. Chen and SFAC Galleries Director Meg Shiffler. The exhibition centers on how artists grapple with cultural identity and its relationship to the human condition. Artists include Zeina Barakeh, Jeremiah Barber, Vic De La Rosa, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Dana Harel, Carolyn Janssen, Summer Mei Ling Lee, Ranu Mukherjee, Ramekon O'Arwisters, and Tsherin Sherpa.
SFAC Galleries is incredibly honored to present works by Bay Area artist Susan O'Malley in an intimate exhibition, Do More of What You Love. Culling from projects throughout O'Malley's career, Do More of What You Love celebrates the vibrancy and power of her creativity and the impact she had as an artist, curator, and beautiful spirit.
We're also thrilled to launch ENTER: 126, a new annual program featuring a commissioned, site-specific work in the SFAC Gallery entryway. The inaugural ENTER: 126 installation, Coalescence, a collaboration between architect Annette Jannotta and media artist Olivia Ting.
