San Francisco Performances presents the debut of young virtuoso violist Lawrence Power with Simon Crawford-Phillips on piano. This rare viola recital takes place Thursday, March 5, 7:30pm at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, San Francisco.
Power and Crawford's program juxtaposes some of the best known works of the viola literature (York Bowen's Phantasy and Schumann's Marchenbilder) with transcriptions of Russian classics (selections from Shostakovich's The Gadfly and Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, both arranged by Vadim Borisovsky) and a US premiere of PowerPlay by English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage, whose extensive chamber music output surprises those who know his opera Anna Nicole.
