FRIDAY, AUGUST 19TH

HOBO (Minus) BIO:
It should come as no surprise when you listen to the body of work that Joel Boychuk has created under his Hobo guise, that each individual output sounds so different.

Hobos are wanderers - migrant work-seekers, constantly on the move. You can tell that he is aware of this fact every time he steps into his studio, because speaking musically, for him the same path is never trodden twice. When asked why he never seems to repeat himself, he will answer without hesitation: “You stay still, you’re more likely to be left behind.” It sounds so simple but it makes so much sense. He freely admits that there will be people who come along and stick around by playing it safe, finding something that works, and riding it as long as possible. For him, however, that is not an option. Boychuk speaks of idleness and stagnation as though they’re the worst plague imaginable. And it’s valid logic. Everything is in a state of change, why not embrace it? And embrace it the twenty-four year old producer has.

With simple beginnings in between Canada and Detroit, the young star has risen from total obscurity, to performances at some of the world’s hottest clubs, along side it’s hottest DJs. Fabric in London, Amnesia in Ibiza, Tenax in Florence, and Europe’s biggest festivals are among the stops that this Hobo has made in his never ending commute. And there looks to be no end in sight. Boychuk is always hard at work on his next idea, and yet somehow he makes time to gain extra credits wherever possible, most recently as ‘Assistant Executive Audio Producer” for the acclaimed Plastikman Live tour in store for 2010. When asked how he manages, he reveals his first noticeable consistency, in saying: “Just never stop moving.” It’s a mantra he wears proudly, and that pays off everyday.

After having his 2009 hit, ‘Symptom’ charted as one of Depeche Mode co-founder Martin Gore’s favourite tracks, to having Hugo Boss select his ‘funk jam’ (as Boychuk calls it) ‘Howard Watson’s Jam’ as one of their monthly favourites, to touring along side Richie Hawtin at the biggest events and clubs in Europe, this Hobo is most certainly earning his keep. Boychuk has made it very clear that he doesn’t ever plan on sitting still; so wherever you go, keep your eyes peeled. There’s a good chance he’ll be passing by any day.

ABOUT GUY MANTZUR: (Kompakt /Bedrock/Diynamic/Lost & Found/Sudbeat)
Tel Aviv based Guy Mantzur specializes in creating electronic music that defies over-simple genre classification. Drawing influences from Tech House, Techno and proper Progressive House, he creates his own distinctive musical template that has seen him establish himself as a top DJ/Producer worldwide. He is instantly recognisable through his unique hypnotic melodies and seductive grooves, both in his productions and his DJ sets.

Guy’s music often tops the Beatport sales charts and is played & supported by the biggest names around the globe. Having collaborated recently on productions and remixes with the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Robert Babicz, Marc Romboy and many more, he is consistently creating a huge buzz within the scene. His releases on labels such as kompakt , Bedrock , Sudbeat , Lost & Found always turn heads and gain him new fans. In addition to his studio talents, Guy is also the co-owner and A&R for the Munich-based label Plattenbank, alongside Yaniv Tal, which provides another outlet for his musical creations.

Recognised as a leading light in the ever-growing Tel Aviv underground music scene, Guy Mantzur is also the highly respected resident DJ at the city’s most popular club - The Cat & The Dog – where his unique style and unrivalled technique allows him to regularly play alongside a very diverse selection of international stars, such as Sasha, John Digweed, Pan-Pot, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Catz ‘n’ Dogz, M.A.N.D.Y, Martin Eyerer, Michel de Hey, Guy J, Aki Bergen, Tiesto and many more. As a result, Guy’s skills behind the decks have recently been recognised at the prestigious XL Awards, where he received the accolade of “Israel’s Best Underground DJ 2013”.
The release of Guy Mantzur’s exceptional cutting-edge, debut artist album (“Moments”) on Hernan Cattaneo’s much-respected Sudbeat label in December 2013 undoubtedly brought this exceptionally talented producer and DJ further into the global spotlight. Following from that, 2014 and 2015 brought great successes with Guy releasing “TIME” together with sahar z on Guy j’s label Lost & Found and ‘Epika’ on Kompakt and ‘Sad Robot’ on Bedrock, all releases got straight into beatport’s TOP 10 track charts.

As the year went on Guy showed no signs of fatigue with prestigious shows at Kosmonout club (Berlin), Cielo (NYC), DNSONF (Miami), Sound (LA), Crobar (Buenos Aires), Plaza de la music (Cordoba) and Harry klein (Munich) to add to an already impressive list of perfomances at some of the worlds best clubs including Ministry Of Sound (London),Pacha (Buenos Aires) , Stereo (Montreal) , Verboten NYC , Loveland Festival ,Built Club (Munich) and many more.

With a non-stop schedule at some of dance’s key international locations, Guy juggled performance with creativity perfectly with a host of successful releases over the course of year including ‘My Love Is Systematic’ on Systematic Recordings as well a remix of Marc Rombys monster hit ‘Hypernova’. Successful Beatport chart climbers ‘Tree’s of Eden’ (#01 on Beatport electronica chart) and a remix of the old school classic Van Bellen’s ‘Let Me Take You’ all but cemented another sterling year for the electronic artist.
