"Seeing" by Rosanna Lyons: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee is pleased to present "Seeing" by Rosanna Lyons. This body of work, which spans the last several years, is about looking beyond the traditional while embracing classical oil painting techniques. Rosanna chooses both humans and nonhuman animals as subjects of her paintings; no matter who the subject, and whether a full figure or cropped composition, the subject is treated with the same dignity and full interest of the painter. The dogs she chooses as subjects reflect her desire to draw attention to rescue animals and the plight of animal suffering. Rosanna uses strong, dense, high contrast colors, exercises drawing skills with charcoal, and examines her subjects very closely, seeking to present them in a new way. Her paintings are contemplative and often somber, as well as engaging and intriguing.

Rosanna Lyons was born in the tiny Irish village of Johnswell in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She attended college at Limerick School of Art & Design, and was recruited at the tender age of seventeen by Sullivan Bluth, a major American animation studio, which had noticed her strong life-drawing skills. She has built an impressive animation design resume, which includes work for such studios as Steven Spielberg’s Amblimation in London, Walt Disney Studios in Paris, and Dreamworks in Los Angeles. She contributed to projects including "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "The Prince of Egypt", "The Road to El Dorado" and many others. In 2005 Rosanna worked as an effects animator on "The Simpsons Movie", and then became the first animator specializing in effects to work on "The Simpsons" television series. Since then she has worked on "The Surfs", "Tom and Jerry", and various commercials, but her true passion is fine art figure painting. Rosanna has studied painting throughout the years in Dublin, London, Paris, Madrid, and Los Angeles. Her work is shown nationally at Hilliard Gallery in Kansas City and Niza Knoll Gallery in Denver as well as locally in San Francisco, where she is a member of City Art Cooperative Gallery.

Join us on Friday, May 4th from 6-8pm for the opening reception for this exhibition. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
