World renowned Scottish fiddler Alasdar Fraser and brilliant American cellist Natalie Haas in concert. The Firehouse Arts Center Theater in Pleasanton plays host to the award-winning duo for a special matinee performance of cutting-edge fiddle and cello explorations of Scottish and global music.
The musical partnership between Fraser, long regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador, and the sizzlingly-talented Haas may not seem a logical one, but the duo's virtuosic teamwork, driving dance rhythms, quiet chamber music moments, and their shared passion for improvising on the melody and the groove of Scottish tunes has helped reconstruct and revive the Scottish tradition of playing dance music on violin and cello.
The duo has now toured internationally with their unique sound for 18 years, with five critically acclaimed and award-winning albums in their pockets, including the coveted Scots Trad Music Awards Album of the Year.
Fraser has a concert and recording career spanning over 30 years, with a long list of awards, accolades, radio, 100s of television credits, and feature performances in top movie soundtracks Last of the Mohicans, Titanic, and others. He has also founded and directs a number of respected music camps. In 2011, he was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.
With appearances on over 50 albums, Natalie Haas is one of the most sought after cellists in traditional music. Originally from Menlo Park, California, Haas is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music. In addition to her extensive performing and recording schedule, she teaches and coaches across the country, including at Berklee College of Music in Boston as associate professor. She has performed and recorded with a who's who of the fiddle world including Mark O'Connor, Natalie MacMaster, Irish "supergroups" Solas and Altan, Liz Carroll, Dirk Powell, Brittany Haas, Darol Anger, Jeremy Kittel, Hanneke Cassel, Laura Cortese, and many more.
