San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) Philharmonic Orchestra, Bon Voyage Concert and Silent Auction

This summer the San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) will embark on its exciting International Concert Tour to Eastern Europe. The Philharmonic Orchestra, made up of some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Bay Area, will be performing in five cities in Eastern Europe at the some of Europe’s finest concert halls, including the Sarajevo National Theater; the Opera Theater of Ljubljana, Slovenia; the Slovak Radio Concert Hall in Bratislava, Slovakia; and Smetana Hall, Prague, Czech Republic. The San Jose community has the opportunity to hear the tour program and to support and bid them farewell at their Bon Voyage Concert on Saturday evening,
June 15, 2013, at the School of Arts & Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. The orchestra will perform Gillis’s Twinkle Toes, Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Gottschalk’s Grand Tarentelle for Piano and Orchestra with Sofija NediĆ, first place winner of several international piano competitions. The orchestra will end the concert with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 “The Little Russian” in C Minor.
A Silent Auction & Wine Reception will be featured starting before the concert at 6:30 pm, during intermission, and briefly after the concert, with all proceeds going to SJYS.
SJYS hosts an international tour every other year and strives to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences and opportunities for its young musician members. In addition to the concerts presented, members will get a chance to experience local culture and tour major attractions, including the Old City of Sarajevo, the Kromeriz Chateau in the Great Hall of the Prince
Archbishops, and the 14th century Charles Bridge in Prague. The Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing for local dignitaries at several of their concerts, including the U.S. Ambassador to
Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Hon. Patrick S. Moon.
