All-dragster Panel Announced for San Francisco's Biggest Free Drag Contest
The 2nd Annual Castro Drag Performer of the Year Contest - Pride Saturday afternoon in San Francisco's historic and LGBTQ iconic Castro neighborhood - announces its all-dragster line-up of judges to help crown this year's winner who'll get $1,000 cash prize, while the runner up nets $500.
The contest takes place:
Saturday June 24, 2023,
Noon-5pm outside, on Noe street between Market and Beaver streets.
Fifteen drag contestants vie for the title and prize from our six celebrity San Francisco drag icons:
Fontaine Blue - Bon vivant drag king extraordinaire;
Juicy Liu - politico activist, Miss GAPA 2016 (GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance), member LGBTQI+ Advisory Committee of the SF Human Rights Commission;
Meatflap - The original San Francisco meat treat and SF Drag King 2021;
D'Arcy Drollinger - World's first Drag Laureate, owner of Oasis-home of drag;
Bubbles Bathory - Dragster & community advocate unionizing strippers; and promoting Harm Reduction / Recovery;
Sister Kitty Catalyst - Feral nun, LGBTQ community historian and activist.
The Castro Merchants are proud to sponsor this event to uplift our neighborhood, businesses, and artists who make San Francisco a vibrant source of joy and love.
Each of three preliminary rounds will showcase every contestant doing a song of their choosing, and end in a "lip-sync for your life" between the judge's semi-finalists of a randomly selected song. Judges will hand-pick finalists to slay all day in the epic finale round where each contestant will perform another number of their choice and top finalists of the Finale round will again do a "lip-sync for your life" to help us pick the winner!
