San Francisco Electronic Music Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The 20th Annual San Francisco Electronic Music Festival presents electronic composer pioneer Maggi Payne, mystic sound artist Joel St. Julien, and cybernetic multimedia musicians MSHR in concert at the Brava Theater on Friday, September 13th, 2019.

Maggi Payne is a composer of electroacoustic music, video artist, and recording engineer. Using analog synthesizers or natural sounds processed beyond recognition, she creates immersive environments, inviting listeners/participants to enter the sound, experience it from the inside out in intimate detail.

Joel St. Julien is a San Francisco-based composer, musician, songwriter and sound artist. Joel has written music for documentaries, short / feature films, and dance. His work has been featured on PBS, AOL.com, and various film festivals internationally. He is a firm believer in experimentation/fusion with acoustic and electronic elements in sound oscillating through escapism and the mysticism of the present tense.

MSHR is the art collective of Brenna Murphy and Birch Cooper. The duo collaboratively build and explore systems composed of sound, light and sculpture. They view their practice as a constantly morphing cybernetic entity with its outputs routed into its inputs. The outputs primarily take the form of installations and performances that integrate digital sculpture and analog circuitry.

The San Francisco Electronic Music Festival is an artist-run organization founded in 1999 by eight local sound artists and musicians. Since the first festival in 2000, SFEMF has presented works that span the sonic spectra from ambient to rhythmic and atonal to melodic by participants ranging from new and emerging young artists to respected pioneers of the electronic music field.
