The festival is thrilled to bring back one of world’s great dance companies, the San Francisco Ballet, at the annual Dance Gala.
America’s oldest professional ballet company, San Francisco Ballet created the first American productions of Swan Lake and Nutcracker, and in recent decades has commissioned and premiered works by leading contemporary choreographers including Mark Morris, William Forsythe and Christopher Wheeldon. Under Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson’s creative leadership, the company, which The New York Times called “one of the world’s most important vehicles for new ballet choreography,” has earned a reputation as among the ballet world’s finest. Accompanied by the Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, led by maestro Martin West, it presents a rich mix of contemporary and classic works, performed with unfailing passion and grace.
