SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Black Cat (see times)
NYC vocalist Sami Stevens combines jazz, experimental, and classic R&B sensibilities to forge a truly unique voice in her original music. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Sami has performed with world renowned jazz pianist Jason Moran, and 6-time Grammy nominee Fred Hersch. Sami has toured the US, Europe, and Australia with various projects, appearing at NYC venues like the Cutting Room, Brooklyn Bowl, and National Sawdust, and at music festivals like Sydney Fest, SXSW and Meltasia. Stevens has led the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, performed numerous times in Boston’s Jordan Hall, and she even sang the U.S. National Anthem in Fenway Park at age 16. She teams up with Kazemde George and his group to bring their show, “Some Beats & Some Soul” to the Black Cat stage.

Kazemde George is an African American jazz saxophonist, composer, and beat-maker, raised by Caribbean parents in Berkeley, California. He currently lives in Brooklyn, and he performs and teaches all around New York City. During his childhood, he was exposed to a wide range of musical styles, and he has been playing piano, saxophone, and percussion from an early age. Kazemde developed a passion for jazz, as he began to recognize it as one of the most impressive and powerful cultural heritages in the U.S.

He also makes electronic music under the moniker “KG,B”. KG,B’s beats are inspired by producers such as J Dilla, Madlib, and Flying Lotus, who he sees as modern the counterparts of early jazz innovators. Since traveling to Cuba in 2012, Kazemde has expanded his focus from hip-hop and jazz to the full spectrum of musical styles which blossomed from the African Diaspora, including Afro-Cuban, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Brazilian, and African-American styles. His original music is compelling and memorable. When these two love cats perform at Black Cat, it is always a beautiful night. Book your tickets now!
