Salonnieres: Women of Power and Influence

SEE EVENT DETAILS
This summer Valley of the Moon Music Festival celebrates its 5th anniversary season in Sonoma with a tribute to the extraordinary salonnieres of the 19th century, women who worked to advance the careers and reputations of composers from Bach to Stravinsky. Audiences will enjoy a musical tour of several influential salons including those of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel in Leipzig, Sara Levy in Berlin and Winnaretta Singer, "Princesse de Polignac," in Paris.

Among the renowned musicians taking part are violinists Rachel Barton Pine, Elizabeth Blumenstock and Marc Destrube; cellist Tanya Tomkins; clarinetist Eric Hoeprich; fortepianists Jeffrey LaDeur and Eric Zivian; sopranos Nikki Einfeld and Danielle Samson; and tenor Kyle Stegall.

In tandem with its concert series, the Festival will present a lecture series with scholars from Harvard, Stanford and the University of Florida discussing the social and musical contexts of the 19th-century salon.

After each concert, audience members may enjoy a complimentary glass of wine while mingling with the artists on the Hanna Center's patio. Each reception features a different local winery. Guests may also picnic on the patio before concerts.

Festival dinners at Valley of the Moon Winery's Madrone Estate, just five minutes away from the concert venue, will take place on July 14 and 21.
