Lamplighters Music Theatre presents an all-new production of Gilbert & Sullivan's
"RUDDYGORE or, The Bruja's Curse", their delightfully spooky, hilarious parody of 19th Century melodrama.
This scintillating new production by David Euresti will be unlike any you've seen: we are transporting audiences to a real-life town in central Mexico, Real del Monte, whose large Cornish population immigrated in the 1820s! More than mere melodrama - the vibrant intrigue at the heart of this show will be straight out of a Telenovela!
The Murgatroyds are a Cornish family that has been haunted for generations by a family curse: upon inheriting the title Lord of Ruddygore, the eldest son must commit one crime per day or die an unspeakable death! For years each has suffered. The latest family member to inherit the title is seeking to hide from both his ancestors and his inheritance to avoid such a fate.
Our version of RUDDYGORE combines British customs with beloved Mexican traditions, including folkloric dancing and the celebration of the Day of the Dead. With Spanish/English bilingual supertitles for both songs AND dialog, Lamplighters is expanding the company's award-winning commitment to accessibility in an ambitious new way.
