Rita Moreno - Live At the Orinda

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Emmy, Grammy, Tony and Academy Award winner Rita Moreno will open the Live At the Orinda 2019 Concert Series at the historic Orinda Theatre with a rare concert appearance and her first cabaret show in years.

You don't want to miss this special opportunity to see the entertainment legend in the intimate Orinda Theatre as she sings and tells stories from her illustrious career.

Rita Moreno has had a thriving acting career for the better part of six decades. One of the very few artists - and the very first - to win an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy. Born in Puerto Rico in 1931, she moved to New York City in 1937 and soon began her professional career dubbing Spanish language films before making her Broadway debut at age 13 in 1945. Hollywood soon beckoned, where she appeared in such films as THE KING AND I and SINGING IN THE RAIN. But it was her electrifying performance of Anita in the 1961 film WEST SIDE STORY that took her career to newer heights, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Coming full-circle, Steven Spielberg recently announced that Rita Moreno will executive produce and co-star in his upcoming adaption of WEST SIDE STORY in the role of Valentina, a reimagined and expanded version of the role of Doc, owner of the corner store where Tony works. Filming begins in the summer of 2019.

Moreno won a 1972 Grammy Award for her contribution to "The Electric Company"'s soundtrack album, following it up three years later with a Tony Award as Best Featured Actress in a Musical for THE RITZ (a role she would reprise in the film version, THE RITZ (1976). She then won Emmy Awards for THE MUPPET SHOW (1976) and THE ROCKFORD FILES (1974).

Currently starring in the fourth season of the Netflix series, ONE DAY AT A TIME, Rita Moreno has continued to work steadily in film and television, on stage, and recording, solidifying her reputation as a national treasure, a status that was officially ratified with the award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in June 2004.
