RIN TIN TIGER / SHEPPARD

SEE EVENT DETAILS
RIN TIN TIGER

Rin Tin Tiger is an alternative folk trio from San Francisco, CA. Comprised of brothers Kevin (songwriting, vocals, guitar) and Sean E. (bass, vocals) Sullivan, with Andrew Skewes-Cox on drums and additional vocals. The music carries an emphasis on lyrics, organic musicianship, and raw energy -- showing traces of Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Tupac and Morrissey while retaining a sound that is contemporary in an electronic-drenched world. They have spread their sound across the Bay Area and beyond; from small cafes and art spaces to well respected venues like Bottom of the Hill, Rickshaw Stop, Cafe Du Nord, The Avalon, and The Blank Club.

SHEPPARD

Featuring siblings George, Amy and Emma, Brisbane-based indie 6-piece Sheppard have rapidly risen to fame, developing from unknowns just twelve months ago, to one of the biggest Australian acts on commercial radio - scoring multiple TV appearances and becoming one of the most - watched Aussie acts by the international music industry.

Sheppard have already started making serious waves overseas, with many sold-out headline shows, festivals and showcase performances abroad. Their latest worldwide sojourn (their 5th in 14 months) included performances at the most in-demand CMJ Music Marathon showcases in New York, and a standout appearance on Netherlands national youth radio broadcaster 3FM - all off the back of an acclaimed performance at Brisbane’s Bigsound conference in September.

The band’s breakthrough hit ‘Let Me Down Easy’ ignited radio airwaves around the world in 2013, hitting the Top 20 ARIA and airplay charts in Australia and the Top 10 in Thailand. The single, which is on its way to 130,000 sales, cracked the Top 100 on the CMJ college radio charts in the US last year and received further chart success in New Zealand, Holland and Thailand.

The band is currently in the studio working on their highly anticipated debut album (due mid-2014).

"Glossy electro-pop shows no sign of ceasing at this year's fest. Down in the tight spots of a packed studio at Webster Hall, Brisbane's Sheppard brought happiness and hand claps." --CMJ.com

"The highlight of the night, Sheppard's energy was infectious. They really knew how to get the audience involved, dancing and singling along with them.Sheppard was probably my favorite out of all of the bands I saw over the course of CMJ 2013." --Examiner.com

LUKE SWEENEY

A bicycle crash left a teenage Sweeney with his jaw wired shut for six weeks, and in recovering, his sustenance was on an acoustic guitar. What was he chasing? Perhaps something in a progression that led to the acquisition of a Yamaha MT-50 4-track recorder, seclusion in empty piano rooms on the campus of UC Berkeley, hosting cassette release parties in his co-op, and the subsequent rabid touring and recording in some of San Francisco's most celebrated bands (Vows, Montra), all the meanwhile logging enough California-psych gold on tape to get a good stretch of Highway 101 named after him.

With the release of 'Ether Ore', Sweeney stripped down the approach in a solo debut that has local press lauding his 'distinctly handcrafted feel. Songs such as "Stuck to the Vine" and "Stone E. A. Way" balance delicate finger picking in odd tunings and the hushed sadness of unrequited love with melodies that feel like opiates for the soul' - (San Francisco Chronicle). Recorded over a few days in April 2012 at the house of the heralded Faultline Studios & Golden Gate Recording wizard Lucas Boilon, 'Sweeney creates magic with lyrics that are deeply personal and music that's... powerful' (East Bay Express).
