San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC) and Berkeley Ballet Theater (BBT) continue their 2019-2020 seasons with an original fully-staged choral music and dance production. Inspired by the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment and the legacy of those who fought to guarantee women's constitutional right to vote, the program will feature eight new pieces of choreography created for BBT's Studio Company set to choral works by eight living composers including world premiere performances of I Shouldn't Be Up Here by Angelica Negron and Belong Not by Aviya Kopelman, commissioned and co-commissioned by SFGC with the Israel Institute, respectively.
Led by SFGC Artistic Director Valerie Sainte-Agathe and BBT Artistic Director Robert Dekkers, more than 25 dancers and 40 singers will share the stage in a program that includes Ysaye Maria Barnwell's Wanting Memories, Sahba Aminikia's Music of Spheres, Carla Kihlstedt's Herring Run, Steve Reich's Clapping Music, Libby Larsen's The Womanly Song of God and Meredith Monk's Panda Chant. Featured guest artists include experimental percussion-guitar duo The Living Earth Show, string quartet Amaranth Quartet, and guest dancers from Post:Ballet. The program features choreography by local and national artists, including Post:Ballet's resident choreographer Vanessa Thiessen, Dani Rowe, Raymond Ejiofor, Chuck Wilt, Ky Woodward-Sollesnes, Alexis Borth, and Robert Dekkers.
$28 to $50.
