THIS EVENT HAS ENDED

This 5-hour workshop will introduce you to weaving ribbons and fabrics into textile pieces that you can use in your other projects or keep as art in their own right. We will start with a simple ‘plain weave’ (pictured below, made into a purse) and those that feel confident can then go on to try a more complicated ‘triaxial weave’ (also known as ‘mad weaving’, pictured above) which results in a star or tumbling blocks pattern.
To enjoy this workshop you will need to be comfortable manipulating fabric and ribbon with your hands and using pins on cardboard. By the time we finish you will have at least one letter-sized finished piece to take home!

Ribbons and fabric will be supplied but if you wish to bring any favorites from home please feel free. Fabric should be pre-cut into approximately 1 inch wide strips to save time. Bias binding and trims can also be used.
This workshop is for everyone 15 years and older.

Alex Byrne is originally from England and has been sewing for more than 30 years. She has taught workshops in England, Japan and here in California. While she loves all textile arts, she is currently obsessed with quilting, and is heavily involved with the SF Quilters Guild. She is a firm believer in having fun while you craft and always encourages her students to enjoy themselves while they are learning.
