Underground goth and industrial music is still alive in San Jose with locals RetConStruct, who bring doom, gloom, dark metal licks and heavy industrial beats to their songs (with lots of style, i.e. crazy hair and makeup). But they're not just doing it exclusively here anymore. They recently signed to Seattle-based industrial label, Wax-Heart Records Ltd., who boast a modest but focused roster of goth/industrial bands from all over the country. (Bind.Torture.Kill, Miss Cadaverous and NPMN). A particular highlight for RetConStruct is lead singer Jill Valdes, who punctuates the dark music with some powerful singing, as well as some rather haunting spoken narratives.
