Root Division is thrilled to partner with our neighbors at ODC by curating the theater lobby with the work of our Studio Artists and Affiliates. This season, we present the work of former Studio Artist, Lindsay Stripling, who studied photography at UCSC and painting at San Francisco Art Institute.
Stripling examines the photograph as a ever deteriorating scrap of evidence, a fragmented placeholder for a story or ever evolving tale. With both grandmothers having developed Alzheimer's and Dementia late in life, she has been exploring the familial and societal importance of lore, myth and legend and their inherent need for repetition and tendency to evolve into new histories. What happens when those narratives begin to wear thin and disappear, how do we begin to reinvent and retell something we cannot really recall.
