'Rejoined: Waves' by Kathleen Posada Weber and Stephen Finkin: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee and The Mill are pleased to present “Rejoined: Waves” by Kathleen Posada Weber and Stephen Finkin. These artists have built bodies of work which achieve very distinct goals when viewed independently from one another: Posada engages in the realm of pure abstraction and instinctive expression, while Finkin toils endlessly to realistically capture moments seen in the ocean. Displaying these two bodies of work together instigates a new dialogue. Posada Weber’s abstract blue color fields contain forms reminiscent of Finkin’s waves, the waves recall colors vital to Posada’s compositions, and the wave compositions seem to deconstruct into shapes seen in the Rejoined pieces. These two series compliment each other and speak to each other, bridging great gaps in style and perspective. “Rejoined: Waves” runs from March 1 through April 17 at The Mill in San Francisco. Join us on Friday March 2nd from 6-8pm for the opening reception. Drinks will be served and the artists will be in attendance.

Originally from Los Angeles, Kathleen Posada Weber lives and works in San Francisco. She began painting while pursuing a fashion career, and as her professional creativity evolved, so did her desire to realize her personal and pure artistic expression. Over the last three years Posada Weber has spent many short and intense periods of time studying at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Posada Weber’s “Rejoined” is a body of work that considers the concept of modern perfection seeking and image. The significance of flaws, both perceived and actual inspire the aesthetic language of “Rejoined”. Precious materials and color are employed to contemplate these perceptions and reflect on a re-framed perspective, while three of the most historically important blues, Prussian Blue, Cobalt Blue and Lapis Lazuli dominate the body of work in full force.

New York State based Stephen Finkin has had a successful career as a film and television production designer, and as a graphic and exhibit designer. He graduated from Pratt Institute (BFA), University of New Mexico (MA), and studied at The NYU Graduate Institute of Film and Television. He is a retired member of United Scenic Artists and IATSE, film unions in New York City. He now works exclusively in pastel and charcoal, which allow for explosive spontaneity and joyous surface textural possibilities of medium and subject. His “Waves” series relies on the immense power and elemental beauty of our oceans to permit a limitless arena of exploration while keeping the context of his work focused.

The Mill is a cafe and bakery that has been supporting artists with exhibitions since 2013. This exhibition is free and open to the public. The Mill is located at 736 Divisadero St., and is open from 7am until 9pm every day. Contact [email protected] and visit themillsf.com.
