Curated by Jeanette Alanis, Reflections on Exile examines displacement, restrictive or forced movement, and the after effects of war and persecution through the lens of Bay Area artists. Selected artists offer a creative viewpoint on how exile has personally affected their lives in order to provide an alternate path forward.
A one night performance event will accompany the closing reception of Reflections on Exile. Performance offers a unique communication tool and physical manifestation of the body's experience of exile. Ranging from participatory to literary to collaborative, performances will present a multitude of perspectives on the experience of exile for Bay Area artists. These performances will specifically address man-made borders and the effects of displacement both physical and psychological.
In tandem with the exhibiting artwork, this evening of performance intends to ignite activism, heal xenophobia, and strengthen community in order to foster resilience and create pathways for a tangible, alternate future.
