Reclaiming ~ Reclamando: an Art Showcase

SEE EVENT DETAILS
History. Herstory. Our story. Some of us just got here and are trying to figure things out. Others have been around for millennia and are fully aware of their mission and purpose in this life. Artist Rica de la Luz, is activating a mission of beauty, love and wellness in all her endeavors. Showing at Vinyl Coffee and Wine Bar through December, her series, "Reclaiming -Reclamando” elegantly combines elements of both her given culture and those revealed through journey and exploration, offering an adaptation of ancestral iconography, still relevant and resonating with the human experience today. The full color paintings in this collection are painted on reclaimed pastry boxes from local coffee shops on her SF delivery route, which has given her a fresh perspective of the emerging cultures of the city of her mother’s birth. A native of Santa Cruz, Ca, her roots are in San Francisco, where her maternal family settled 100 years ago after fleeing the Mexican Revolution. The last of her elders having passed in 2016, no remaining family can afford life in the City. Sharing her art in the City is an homage to her ancestors who knew a different level of struggle and may have considered an artist’s life unattainable, or reckless. Rica dreams out loud where her grandmothers were silenced by assimilation and cultural whitewashing. A new song for a new era of pride and acceptance of humanity. Wednesday, Dec 5 at 7pm at Vinyl, come see and discuss these works, and hear her songs and stories that resonate with the theme. Her partner and fellow Artist, Joseph Jason Santiago LaCour, will be in the house performing the dopest of poetry and providing chillhop grooves. Contact us for purchase, commissions and future events. [email protected] on Instagram:  @sacredmudhenna @dopepoetlove@sacredpoets
