Realism Point of View

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Desta Gallery is pleased to present Realism Point of View by Greg Martin and Bryn Craig.
Join Us for Artist Reception Friday, September 14th, 2018, - 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

GR Martin
Acrylic on Canvas

The different themes in GR Martin’s works have in common the artist’s fascination with realism and the different ways in which it can be expressed. From scenes that appear as staged tableaux to the large, expressionist-infused representational paintings, his work is both accessible and unique. Influenced by TS Eliot and Chester Arnold, his paintings are visually striking and imbued with an intriguing, veiled perspective.

Martin’s work has been featured at The Oakland Museum of California, The San Diego Museum of Art, the Masur Museum of Art and appeared on the covers of The New York Times, Marin magazine, The Cove and other publications.

Bryn Craig
Oil on Canvas

Although Bryn Craig work is representational, Craig is not a photo realist. He says, "I look for the poetry in even the most ordinary subjects, not just the surface appearance. I hope to stimulate that same response in the viewer". His subjects range from the surf crashing wildly on a rocky coastline in northern California to a quiet corner in a city at night, to a rural landscape and even the occasional portrait.

Craig uses traditional techniques and materials. His influences are many and varied from Fairfield Porter, to John Singer Sargent, but he is most identified with Edward Hopper. Influenced by, but very much true to his own style and outlook.

Craig has been exhibiting his work in solo and group shows nationwide for several years and he has been recipient of awards and honors for his work.
